Galway is such a magical city – and it keeps throwing out amazing new secrets from one season to the next. As beautiful on a rainy summer’s day as it is in the middle of winter, Galway is a place that elegantly shape-shifts from one month to the next. So, where should you visit during your HYDE Hotel stay? And which Galway tourist attraction are you most excited about photographing? After all, you can never upload enough photos to the ‘gram!
The Claddagh
The Claddagh, located a short 5-minute taxi from the door of HYDE Hotel, is one of the most historical sights around – and it’s a famous Galway tourist attraction. Here, you’ll enjoy sights of majestic swans, adorable ducks, swimming seagulls, and more. The Claddagh was once filled with native Irish speakers – and they would often elect a King of the Claddagh to make decisions for the community. Though many of these traditions have ceased, The Claddagh remains a picturesque location, ideal for a stroll – and of course, it’s the ideal place to channel your inner photographer.
Galway Cathedral
The Galway Cathedral is certainly one of the most eye-catching buildings on the city’s landscape. Work began on this impressive piece of architecture in 1958, and it took some seven years before it was finally finished. For almost 60 years, the Galway Cathedral has welcomed parishioners and visitors inside to celebrate mass. This Galway tourist attraction is definitely worth a visit, especially if you’re looking to capture a photo of one of Galway’s most impressive buildings (pssst! the view from the Salmon Weir Bridge is perfect!)
The Long Walk
Undoubtedly, The Long Walk is one of the most photographed places in the entire city of Galway. Colourfully painted houses line this street that loops from Spanish Arch around to the Galway Docks. Here, you can sit and watch the world go by, take a stroll down its famous thoroughfare, or stop and feed the swans. If you’re lucky, you might even see a Galway Hooker boat sail past. If you’re looking for the ideal spot to photograph The Long Walk during your HYDE Hotel stay, stand at The Claddagh and point your lens across. Beautiful!
Pine Island, Derryclare Lough
East of Clifden, you’ll find Pine Island and Derryclare Lough. This natural and beautiful Galway tourist attraction is a fantastic place to visit during your stay, and it’s well worth your time, whether you’re staying for a week or just 48 hours. There is even a dedicated viewing spot here where you can stand and gaze to your heart’s content. All you’ll need to do is point your camera in the right direction and start snapping. What makes this place all the more special is the backdrop of the Twelve Bens mountain range. Wonderful!
